Hi, I'm Odell Gauntlett, RN.
I'm a Connecticut registered nurse and co-founder of Acuity Homecare LLC, a homemaker-companion agency registered with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (HCA.0001496). I also co-founded Gauntlett Familycare LLC, a concierge nursing practice. I made CareCharted so new owners can start with the guides and forms I wish I'd had.
More about me →How to start a home care agency in Connecticut
The first decision is which kind of agency you're opening. A non-medical homemaker-companion agency, which provides companionship, homemaking and help with daily activities, registers with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). An agency that provides skilled nursing or home health aide services needs a home health care agency license from the Department of Public Health (DPH). The two paths have different fees, staffing rules and timelines.
After that come business setup, insurance and bonding, payroll and employment law, hiring and training caregivers, and the paperwork that documents every visit. The Connecticut startup guide walks through those steps in order with official sources. The care documentation templates give you intake, care plan and caregiver visit note forms, and the policy and procedure manual template gives you a structured first draft. You can preview sample pages first, or get all three in the bundle.
New for 2027: caregiver training
Under Public Act 26-50, starting January 1, 2027, Connecticut homemaker-companion agencies must give new employees at least 8 paid hours of approved training within 90 days of hire, plus ongoing continuing education. Read our summary of the caregiver training law.
